Christmas Home Tour 2013
As this year races quickly into Christmas week, it is nice to slow down, enjoy every single moment of this glorious season, and invite friends over for a visit.
Welcome to my Christmas Home Tour 2013.
In fact, if my blog White Spray Paint sent out Christmas cards this year to all of my virtual friends with real hearts, its message would be simple:

A Simple Christmas
Christmas 2016 is unfolding as simple and uncomplicated, and I am so grateful.
All of the important things are still in place such as family, faith, and good food, but I have eliminated most of the extra.
No multiple trees, no decorations in every room of the house, no shopping- other than well intentioned gift giving.
Looking back this year, I can see lots of reasons why this was inevitable and needed, but I really don’t want to label the ‘why’, unless of course I label it a blessing.
Here is an update on what I have done and how this is evolving.
*We are not traveling this Christmas. My husband and I invited our family to visit us whenever they can.
*Our gift giving will be simple and personal.
*I decorated simply which includes everything you see in these photos.
To my friends reading this, yes, you read that correctly, I decorated simply.
I walked out to the garage to get the Christmas crates, decided to give our oldest daughter my flocked tree, I couldn’t reach our other tree, and the crate I could reach was full of red ornaments. Decision made.
*My faux red poinsettias and a simple tabletop tree were within reach, so I grabbed those.
Result? No large tree and I used red- which is my favorite Christmas color.
*I used plaid ribbon from Marshall’s ($5.99 a roll) and I bought a skinny garland at Michael’s for $2.99 to add to the simple mix.
*I added my beloved blue and white , stepped back , realized I could breathe, I was smiling, and I was
finished.
I know I have another Christmas extravaganza in me.
It can happen again.
This is not a bah humbug tale. This is about simplicity and relaxation and laughter.
It is also about feeling comfortable and cozy-
which leads me to the wonderful

Isn’t that a wonderful thought?

MY SUMMER HOME TOUR- 2016
Today’s tour is of two areas in our home that are places of comfort
to get out of the fierce South Texas summer heat:
the living room and our kitchen sitting area.
It is no surprise that I love blue and white and flea market finds.
In our living room,
I didn’t need another dining table , but when I saw the one above at a church rummage sale
several years ago, I couldn’t resist.
It has often served as an extra dining table when needed, but recently, I have used
it as a library table.
I added some of my favorite design and garden books and of course more blue and white,
The living room has always been a challenge to arrange because it is
long and narrow. My philosophy about design challenges in our home is
fairly simple:
After talking the problem to death with our three daughters,
I just ignore the problem and do what I like.
This spring and summer
that has been the addition of hot pink to match my favorite bougainvillea
color.
kitchen sitting area, and I love how the green looks with blue and white.
This is the perfect place to read books from my ‘library’,
and it also the perfect place to call Daughters #1,2,and 3 on the phone and go a bridge too far with
my decorating questions.
I always know when that has happened because they begin by saying,
I always know when that has happened because they begin by saying,
“Mother, we talked about that…”
And then I get off the phone and do what I want.
FALL HOME TOUR- 2016
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year.
There are all sorts of wonderful things that I associate with fall,
but one of my favorites is unpacking beloved
fall items that have been stashed away since last year.
I may have an idea in mind of how I want to arrange everything,
but I hold those ideas loosely.
Fall decorating should never feel complicated.
This year I enjoyed mixing neutrals with texture and black in our den-
which is one of my favorite anchoring colors in my home.
I have found in my older, low slung ranch style home
that a touch of black often pulls things together-
even when the usual fall colors are present.
However, even though I enjoy the fall decorating process, it is about
so much more than that for me at this time of year.
Fall for me is about
watching college football on television with family,
and waiting for the first norther (cold front) to blow in,and looking through cookbooks,
and thinking about my Thanksgiving menu,
and putting my raised gardening beds to rest so my skin has a rest too.
It's about
buying new black jeans,
and pulling my black boots out of the back of the closet,
and finding ways to wear all of my
turquoise jewelry .
It's about making caldo,
and pots of chili,
and pans of cornbread,
and buying
pumpkin bread at Breadsmith,
and going out to breakfast or lunch with friends.
And finally, it's about family.
It's about circling the wagons ,
and piling up on the couch under a velour throw,
and feeling grateful and blessed.
